Limits
- No exchange rates: the currency is a label, and every amount is treated as being in that one currency.
- The fewest-transfers claim only holds up to 12 people still owing or owed; beyond that a faster good-enough route is used, and it says so.
- The trip, the people and the expenses stay on this device — no account, nothing uploaded.
How to use it
Pick a tab and name the trip
Choose the Budget planner or the Expense splitter tab, then fill the Trip name and Currency fields that sit under both.
Plan the budget
Enter the travellers and the trip length in days, then an amount against Flights, Accommodation, Food, Transport, Activities, Shopping or Other, marking each one For the whole trip or Per day.
Log who paid for what
In the Expense splitter add the people, then Add an expense with what it was for, the amount, who paid, whether it splits among Everyone or Only some of us, and Evenly or By shares.
Read the balances and settle up
Each person shows as owed, owing or square, and the settle-up lists who pays whom and how much.
Frequently asked questions
How does the settle-up decide who pays whom?
It works out each person's balance, then looks for groups whose balances already cancel out and settles inside each one. For a small group it searches every grouping and can honestly say the result is the fewest transfers possible; for a larger group it switches to a faster method and says only that it reduces the number of transfers, because it has not proved the count is the smallest.
Are there any exchange rates in the arithmetic?
None. The currency is a label you choose and every amount is treated as being in that one currency, so nothing is fetched or converted. If you need to change currencies, do it before you enter the amounts, or use the currency converter tool.
Where is the trip stored?
On your device only, with no account and nothing uploaded, so it is there when you come back. You can export it to a file whenever you want, and a clear control removes everything the tool has kept.
