How it works

  1. Open the camera, or upload a photo you already have.
  2. Put the reticle over the colour and tap — or tap the pixel you want in a photo.
  3. Keep the ones you like. Tap a swatch again to remove it.
  4. Send the set to the colour tool for harmonies, gradients and contrast.

Why the number is approximate

A phone applies auto white balance, auto exposure and its own colour processing before any pixel reaches this page, and nothing here is colour-managed to a profile. Two phones pointed at the same wall will disagree, and so will one phone under two different lights. Treat the reading as a close starting point, never as a match for a brand colour or a paint code.

Point reads one pixel. Average 9 px is the mean of the 3×3 block around it, which settles camera noise without smearing across the edge between two colours.

How to use it

  1. Open a source

    On a phone tap Open camera and allow access when the browser asks; on a computer drop a photo on the dropzone or use Upload a photo.

  2. Choose the sample area

    Switch between Point, which reads one pixel, and Average 9 px, which averages the 3×3 block around it to settle sensor noise.

  3. Sample a colour

    Put the reticle over the colour and tap anywhere on the live view, or tap the pixel you want in the photo — the HEX and RGB reading appears and the colour is added to Swatches.

  4. Send or copy the set

    Tap a swatch to remove it, Clear all to empty the tray, Copy for the HEX list, or Send to palette tool to open Color Tools with the whole set.

Frequently asked questions

Is the colour it reports exact?

No, and the tool says so on every screen: treat it as approximate. A phone applies auto white balance, auto exposure and its own processing before any pixel reaches the page, and the frame is not colour-managed to any profile, so the same wall reads differently under warm and cool light. It is close enough to start a palette from, and it is not a match for a paint, thread or brand reference.

Does the camera feed or the photo leave my device?

No. The camera runs and the photo opens inside your browser on your device, and nothing from either is sent to a server. The frame itself is never stored: only the colour values you sample are kept, in this device's local storage so your swatches survive a reload, and a clear control removes them.

What is the difference between Point and Average?

Point reads the single pixel you tapped. Average takes the mean of the three-by-three block around it, nine samples, which settles the chroma noise a phone sensor produces on a plain surface. Point is the better choice on a small detail or right at the boundary between two colours, where averaging would blend them together.

Can I use it on a computer with no camera?

Yes. Open a photo instead and tap anywhere on it; the sampling is the same code either way. From there you can send the swatches to the colour tools page, which owns palette harmony, contrast checking and export.
