About this tool

What you provide

  • The value you want to convert
  • The category — length, mass, volume, area, speed, temperature, time, digital storage, pressure or energy
  • The unit you have and the unit you want

What you get

  • The converted value, using exact standard factors
  • The same value expressed in every other unit in that category

Limits

  • Months and years are not offered as time units, because their length depends on which month or year you mean.
  • KB, MB and GB are listed separately from KiB, MiB and GiB because they are genuinely different units.
  • Runs entirely on your device.

How to use it

  1. Pick a category

Choose Length, Weight / mass, Volume, Area, Speed, Temperature, Time, Digital storage, Pressure or Energy from the Category list.

  2. Set the value and units

Type the number in the From field, choose the From and To units beside it, and use the ⇄ button to swap the two units.

  3. Read the result

The converted value appears in the To panel, with a list underneath showing what one of your From unit equals in every other unit of that category, plus a Copy button and Copy link to this result.

Frequently asked questions

Which categories can I convert between?

Length, mass, volume, area, speed, temperature, time, digital storage, pressure and energy, using the standard published factors.

Why do KB and KiB give different numbers?

KB, MB and GB count in thousands while KiB, MiB and GiB count in 1024s. They are genuinely different units, so both are shown rather than blurred together.

Why are months and years missing from the time units?

Their length depends on which month or year you mean, so they are left out rather than giving you a conversion that quietly assumes an average.
